BENOIT CREPET: VISIONARY ENGINEER AND PASSIONATE OF MUSIC ON VINYL

Benoit Crepet, originally from Saint-Etienne, is a mechanical engineer who graduated from ENI in Tarbes. Passionate about music and robotics, he is interested in manufacturing in the broad sense and is gradually improving his skills in making mechanically welded assemblies, machining and 3D printing. He will then refine his knowledge in computer development as well as microcontroller programming in order to develop, in parallel with his employment in a large French industrial group, a first model of jukebox for CD.
Building on this beautiful achievement, which has since found a place of choice in his living room and which inevitably arouses the curiosity of his guests, he decides to transform the attempt and launches with passion into the design of a new jukebox for vinyl records which it wants to have features similar to modern media players. The Glenton 150 was born, and with it the ambitious project to create a high-end jukebox brand marketing products that were atypical, innovative and 100% made in France.

GLENTON150: THE CONCEPT

All vinyl aficionados will tell you, vinyl has a sound that is incomparable to that of other media, a “more authentic” sound, a “unique crackle” that invites you to travel. The only small downside, but a big one for Benoit, is that the journey stops suddenly with each change of vinyl and requires the presence of the traveler who must “go through customs again” to get to his new destination. The traditional jukebox has offered the possibility of listening to vinyl continuously since the 1950s, but in the era of listening to music continuously via modern media players, the traditional jukebox struggles to make its letters shine. nobility despite its very attractive vintage character and it's not Benoit who will tell you the opposite! Building on a successful first attempt at designing a CD jukebox in 2017, Benoit is launching a new challenge in 2018, that of designing from A to Z an extraordinary jukebox that he will describe as an “augmented Jukebox”.
The specifications were quite simple, it was necessary to create a jukebox that had the capacity to play a large collection of vinyl records while being able to choose the playing order of each title. But behind this apparent simplicity lies a major challenge because it was also necessary to remove all the constraints induced by the vinyl record and in particular its different formats. A challenge matched by his passion for music and innovation, which this jack-of-all-trades achieved through perseverance. Glenton 150, the first product of the Glenton JKB brand, was born. Beyond the technical challenge, the birth of this project is also the expression of a family heritage. Benoit developed a real taste for making beautiful things since his early childhood, watching his parents work as marble workers on daring projects in the world of luxury (villas, high-end public places, private jets, etc.).

FROM PROTOTYPE TO COMMERCIAL VERSION

Glenton 150 is the first jukebox developed by Glenton JKB.
The development of the prototype took place over 4 years. It was designed and manufactured mainly in Benoit's workshop with his own tools (digital milling machine, metal lathe, 3D printer, etc.) which he equipped himself specifically for this project. A work which required long hours of studies, assembly and adjustments before resulting in a perfectly functional and marketable machine with a customizable design (colors, materials, inlays, etc.) on request.
